Saturday October 13th
Posted by: Charles 'grey wolf' Banas at 8:49 PM link to this newspost

We had to do some emergency maintenance on the site, and a few things might have broke. We apologize for the forums being down for so long, but we've got a more powerful home now, and we're ready to rock.

Due to the maintenance, however, we noticed some minor glitches. Please report any problems you have viewing the site in the comments.

Tribes 1 Master Server Goes the Way of Starsiege's
Saturday July 21st
Posted by: Mhaddy at 4:38 PM link to this newspost

Well, it was inevitable. Sierra announced earlier this week that it would end multiplayer support for 20 of its "heritage" titles, including Tribes 1, on August 16th. While this news, to some, may seem like the end of playing Tribes 1 online, Starsiege vets will remember the community fix that was put in place when Sierra ended Starsiege multiplayer support. To that end, Bloodyboots from our forums pointed out that a community run Tribes 1 multiplayer master server is already in the works, care of Tribes One.

The crowd has spoken and Trajan has answered, delivering a bunch of previously unreleased media. There's a little under a dozen new screenshots, and several handfuls of (mostly) unreleased development art. You can find them all by using our Quick Search Tool and the Gallery keywords, "The Last of 2845 Media", as well. Enjoy folks, that's all she wrote.

Where Clancore is Headed and Why 2845 Failed
Wednesday April 4th
Posted by: Mhaddy at 12:36 PM link to this newspost

An interesting blurb on why Starsiege:2845 was ultimately canned has been posted on our forums by BDUAres, originally posted by Vyper on the NTDF forums. Here's a snippet:

The project was cancelled because of a collection of events that totally derailed our ability to produce anything of significance. First, Vivendi forced us to drop our initial development on UT2004 to and take up development on Tribes: Vengeance. Even though we were very close to an ATR on the UT2004 engine, this made sense; they wanted to sell more copies of T:V. But Irrational Games totally hosed the Unreal engine to the point it was unmoddable. In addition, Vivendi's agreement with IG gave IG the exclusive rights to the T:V source code, so we couldn't fix what they broke.
The post also goes on to explain where Clancore is headed:

So, if you want to know where Clancore is going from here, imagine Tribes 2 combined with Mechwarrior in a unique Universe created by us. We'll finally be free to create freely without all the chains that have held us down for four years.

Head on over to this thread for the full post and to chime in with your thoughts.

I emailed Trajan regarding the release of any previously unseen 2845 assets and here's the summary response:

Everything that was not directly ported from StarSiege is being revamped to be used in their previously mentioned MOD project. This includes all of the music and other art assets. Sometime in the future, any artwork that will not be used will be released to the public. Unfortunately however, no details on the story that had been created for 2845 will be released to the public due to their legal contract with VUG.

 SS:2845 Crew: Welcome!
Tuesday April 3rd
Posted by: Mhaddy at 3:30 PM link to this newspost

Well, I've been so caught up with my career that I only just found out the bad news. While I can't say that I'm completely surprised, it does come as a shock and I am deeply sadened. So let me be the first, second, third, whatever number to welcome those first post posters, long time lurkers, or existing members to our humble community.

We've been around since the very beginning and remain the source for your SS Universe content, and we'd like to keep it that way. Please join us in our General Discussion Forums for your every day run of the muck chatter, or scroll down to our cleverly labeled Starsiege Forums to gorge yourself on insatiable Starsiege ramblings. Or if there's something that you can't find here, please feel free to drop me a line via email, Personal Message, or by posting a thread on the forums.

While SS:2845 may be dead, that doesn't mean that the community has to go with it. Welcome!
